Les Mills Club of the Year Finalist 2010

Did you hear? Our group fitness program is awesome! We're so great, we made it as one of 6 finalists in AUSTRALIA in the Les Mills Club of the Year competition. Not bad considering there are 1100 Les Mills clubs in Australia!

To make it into the finals, it means our instructors are doing a great job, our studios are up to date and fabulous, but more importantly, our members support our classes and are loyal. So thank you!

Sadly, we didn't win this year, but we are still stoked to have made it to finals.

Haven't been to a class lately? Don't know what all the hype is about? Get to a class today and check us out!

New segment - Classes in need of support

Each month, I plan to include this new segment. This will give you information about any classes that have been getting small numbers, which will give you an opportunity to help save your favourite class.

On our big timetable on the wall, you will from time to time see a blue dot next to a class. This means that class has 8 weeks (or less) to run before we remove it from our timetable. Be rest assured, we do loads of work to save a class before removing it. This will include heavy promotion and even a couple of instructor changes.

This does not include our specialty class, HiLo - which is our low impact solution.

So by introducing this segment to our newsletter, I hope to avoid putting a blue dot next to your favourite class.

This month's classes in need of support are:

Tuesday RPM 10.15am with Janine (instructor change): Janine is now running RPM straight after her Tuesday Pump class. We are promoting this as a two hour workout with Janine. Join Janine for weights at 9.15am in her Bodypump class, followed by RPM straight after (an awesome cardio workout). Janine will coach the two classes as a total workout solution. What better way to burn serious calories and get serious results...two classes, back to back, with one of our most popular Personal Trainers!

Monday Boxing 9.15am with Chantal (instructor change): If you want a results driven class, targeting calories, arms, abs, butt and shoulders, boxing is for you. Did you know boxing is also fantastic for bone density? To pumping, motivating music, boxing is an awesome solution if you love Group Fitness AND Personal Training.

Friday Bodybalance 6.30pm with Chantal: Want the perfect way to de-stress after a big week at work or with the kids? This is the class for you. Come along to our Thai Chi, Pilates and Yoga inspired workout. Class is done in candlelight and Chantal will encourage you to go take yourself on a personal journey throughout the class. Forget the Friday arvo chardi and try Bodybalance instead. Suggestion: Smash yourself in Lisa's RPM at 5.30pm and then unwind in Chantal's Bodybalance at 6.30pm.

Social Tennis

Thinking of playing some tennis but don't have a partner?  Come along at 7.30pm on Mondays to our Monday Night Social which is fully organised by one of our Racquet Club Staff.  You'll enjoy a social game of tennis doubles with players of all standards.   Racquet Club Members play for free, Gym Members $6.00, Non-Members $12.00.

60 seconds with...

I keep getting asked to include myself in this, so here goes....

My name: Chantal

I teach: Bodycombat, RPM, Bodybalance and Boxing

My favourite program to teach and why: Don't make me choose! OK, here's why I love them equally. RPM was my original program. RPM helped me lose 15kgs and now I am addicted. I have never looked back. Dan was my instructor when I first started and now we get to share a class on Saturdays which suits our family sommitments on weekends! People often comment on how hard I go in RPM - that's because I truly believe in the program and absolutely love it. Bodybalance changed my life because it taught me to chill out and calm down. I absolutely love teaching on Friday evenings because I used to work in a corporate job so completely understand how desperate many of my Friday night members are to completely relax and unwind. Bodycombat is my new passion. I love what it does to people. I love that it allows members to completely unleash and let themselves go. But most of all, I love the results you get from Bodycombat.

My other job: Mum to 20 month old Josie (she has as much as energy as me, I have my hands full)

Why I started teaching: I wanted to inspire people the way I had been inspired. I wanted to be paid to exercise! That way I had to turn up! I wanted to change people's lives the way mine had been changed for the better.

Why I teach at The Gap: Because this is my home. This is where my family have established themselves. I have made the decision to work close to home in a community which means something to me where the people mean something to me where I can see the impact of my job, every single day.

My favourite pre-class sneaky snack to get me through a class: Protein shake. I can't get through a class without it and I can't recover properly without it either. I am also quite obsessed with Bodyfuel, which we also just started to sell in our pro-shop. I don't get headaches after teaching anymore because of it. If I'm having an extra tough class, I sneak a python from front counter!

The best advice I can give anyone who is just starting out: Push yourself past the three months mark. Many people start out with great intentions and a need to introduce exercise to their life, but then stop at the three month mark. If you get to this point and feel yourself losing motivation, talk to your favourite instructor or Personal Trainer and ask them to helf you find your mojo again! Once you get past this point, exercise will be a part of your life and you won't be able to live without it and this is a great feeling.

One thing you may not know about me: I gave up a career as a senior Bank Manager to be a mum and to work at this club part time and I love it!

Instructor Update

New instructors:

Welcome to two new instructors who have joined our team in April. Tania has joined our team as our Tuesday morning 6am Combat instructor. Tania is an Advanced Combat instructor and she runs a fantastic class. So come along and check her out, but brace yourself for a big workout (with loads of technical tips)!

Bec has taken over our Wednesday evening Combat class at 6.30pm. Bec has years of experience and is renowned for building BIG classes, so get in early and check her class out, it's great fun!

Show your support for our two new girls and come along to their class!

Advanced Instructors:

Our instructors now have the opportunity to advance their skills with an Advanced Training module. Our instructors do this in their own time and their own expense so they can deliver a better class for you.

We have three Advanced Instructors on our team:

Dan - RPM

Chantal - RPM

Tania - Bodycombat

Hopefully we will add to this list throughout 2010.
