Group Fitness Room Major Renovation

We are about to embark on a major renovation of our group fitness room. One of the biggest things we learned from our group fitness survey was that we need to do something about the flooring and storage in that room - URGENTLY!

We have listened.

From March 29 - April 5, our group fitness room will be CLOSED. We will continue to run a few classes on the tennis courts and will put on some extra RPM classes. We know this is frustrating, but we want to make this room better FOR YOU, so bear with us.

So in advance, thank you for your patience and understanding. We can't wait to unveil the new room!

The Gap Health and Racquet Cycling Academy

The Cycling Academy is still in full swing.

Our only barrier has been the rain! Would love to see more people join our cycling group, which hits the road every Sunday morning from 6am. The academy is run by Kirsty Broun and is a must do for anyone who wants to improve their road skills. Our cyclists are currently setting their own personal cycling goals for the month. The sessions are aimed at all skill levels, from brand new beginner riders right through to our more experienced (who are still managing to learn a lot from the technique sessions)

It's never too late to join in. Come for a ride, a coffee and a chat and make some new friends while you are it!

Meet Andrew, our new Personal Trainer

Andrew is our newest Personal Trainer at the Gap Health and Racquet Club:

"Currently I am studying a Bachelor of Physiotherapy and I am in my 3rd year of study. Previous to this I studied a Bachelor of Human Movements; however I didn't complete this as I found a greater interest in the physiotherapy field.

I completed my certificate in 2009, through Personal Training Academy.

I find fitness and health an integral part of all life! I believe it to be very important for every person to be active and healthy. The reason why I chose to become a personal trainer is I wanted to improve on my exercise prescription and thus my ability to implement these in a functional manner. My main goals as a personal trainer are to help clients improve on their health, achieve their goals and also their training. I believe due to my physiotherapy background I will be able to help clients train appropriately and effectively with correct technique and style.
Physiotherapy has helped me immensely with improving my personal training.
I like to train hard, but also make training an enjoyable experience!

I have a keen interest in most sports, especially rugby and power sports.
I enjoy a healthy and active lifestyle.

As I have been a member at the Gap Health and Racquet for approximately 6 years, I am very excited to begin my role here as a personal trainer!:

Andrew's Opening Special - check him out! Three sessions for only $80, that's one free!

Easter Opening Hours

60 seconds with...

Each month we will bring you this new segment to help you get to know your instructors a little better.

60 seconds with.....

Name: Colleen Sullivan

I teach: Bodycombat, Bodyattack, Bodypump, Bodyvive and Bodyjam

My favourite program to teach and why: Is Bodyattack, I come from the old school when high impact aerobics was it. I love the energy of this program

My other job (if I have one): Group Fitness is my life

Why I started teaching: The club owner where I was a member suggested I do my training as I had been doing “aerobics” for a number of years and thought I would make a reasonable Instructor

Why I teach at The Gap: I was excited to be part of a team bringing in a new program to the club and to be there from the beginning and be able to assist the members through their journey

My favourite pre-class sneaky snack to get me through: Those little bite size chocolates, like mars bars – will get you through everytime

The best advice I can give anyone who is just starting out: Don’t give up after six weeks like so many people do. Let exercise become part of your daily routine, like cleaning your teeth.

One thing you didn’t know about me: I used to own a Childcare Centre and hold a Diploma of Childcare and Education
