Open Day 2010
A MASSIVE thank you to everyone who participated and contributed to our Open Day. We had a fabulous day raising funds for the 'Cherish the children' foundation. The day kicked off with the 7 Hour 'Revive Pilates and Physiotherapy' Marathon Bike Ride which saw 16 teams take part this year. During the day we also held other events including our Kardio Kidz Relay, which had 30 entrants and Adults/Kids Hotshots Competition, which had 18 teams participating. A huge attendance across all of our comps and a great fundraising effort by all!
The jumping castle was a hit with the kids and loads of members spent up big at the Bodytarget clothing stand! Our massage therapist, Catherine, worked overtime on all the sore and tired legs from the Marathon Ride and our Physios from Revive worked overtime on injuries and strains - all for a gold coin donation. The sausages were extra tasty, thanks to all our volunteer chefs and we even managed a bit of rain to cool everyone down. The day ended up with a fabulous dinner at David's restaurant, another of our major sponsors. We raised just over $3200 for our very worthy cause, Cherish the Children.
A big thank you to our sponsors:
Major sponsors: Revive Pilates and Physiotherapy and David's Chinese Restaurant
Minor sponsors: Dunlop Sport, Subway, Ferny Chiro, Freshaz, Coca Cola, Good English Painters, Nutrimetics, Bodytarget, Catherine Monteiro - Massage Therapist

Instructor Profile - Meet Tania!
Name: Tania Young
I teach: Body Combat & Body Pump
My favourite program to teach and why: My absolute passion is Body Combat - a fiercely energetic & empowering class where you can unleash your inner warrior.I love the martial arts disciplines together with the music that takes you on a journey to the ultimate high at the very end.
My other job (if I have one): Snr Admin Officer (Full-time) Neurosciences Dept at the Royal Children's Hospital. Working in the Neurology/EEG dept is a very busy & demanding job. It can also be very rewarding but at the same time very disheartening to see so many sick kids.
Why I started teaching:. I absolutely love Les Mills classes. Group fitness classes are great way to have fun exercising & at the same time be inspired by awesome instructors who are there to make sure you get the most out of your workout. I started teaching because I want people to enjoy & succeed. When I hear positive feedback, my job is truly done.
Why I teach at The Gap: The Gap is an awesome gym set-up to cater to all members needs. The members & staff are so friendly!!!
My favourite pre-class sneaky snack to get me through: Caffeine
The best advice I can give anyone who is just starting out: Don't give up after your first class. Come back & try it again a couple of times & then make a decision.
One thing you didn't know about me: When I'm not teaching, I'm in the ring sparring. My coach is a muay thai fighter & truly inspires me to be the best I possibly can be. I am going to participate in an amateur fight later in the year.

Caring for our Equipment
Group fitness participants - please help us to take care of our beautiful equipment! We need your ongoing help! Here are our areas of concern at the moment.
- RPM bikes MUST be loosened off at all four handles after every class. This helps to maintain the bikes and also ensures the next participant sets their bike up correctly. We often find that sometimes, a really muscly rider has tightened one of the handles so hard, we can't get it loose. So by loosening it yourself, you'll be helping us out immensely! We've had our bikes for one year now and are in the middle of completing an annual service on them. Not loosening the bikes after every class is taking its toll on the threads of the screws, so we appreciate your help!
- RPM bikes must also be cleaned thoroughly of all your hard work and sweat after the class. Please use paper towel with disinfectant on it to wipe down the handles, dial, seat and both sides of the bike. If you're feeling extra helpful, feel free to wipe down the stainless steel feet too!
- Pump equipment needs to be returned to the racks. We often find bars hidden in the corners of the room and weights on the floor. There are enough weight trees and bar racks for all the equipment, so please return your equipment correctly after a class. This is a safety concern as bars can fall onto someone if left simply leaning on a wall and people can trip on weights left on the floor, even if they are tucked neatly away. We really appreciate your attention to this!
- Finally, it is really important you collect a token before every single class. If you are doing two classes in a row, you can collect both tokens at the same time, prior to the first class. Why is this important to you? It helps us track attendance in our classes so we can set our timetable based on demand. If we don't hand out the correct number of tokens, we may assume a class is not doing as well as it actually is. So help protect your favourite classes by always grabbing a token - this applies to Kardio Kidz too.
Thanks for your help, please pop any suggestions you have in our comments box as I do read them every couple of days! I am also about to set up a feedback of the week section on our group fitness wall so you can see some of the helpful feedback we receive (anonymous of course!)
